A course which champions excellence in potato storage management is taking place in March next year and bookings are now open.

Led by Potato Storage Insight’s Adrian Cunnington, the Potato Store Managers Course has been running in the UK for nearly three decades.

Next year’s course will take place 4-5 March 2025 at the Greetham Valley Hotel & Conference Centre near Oakham in Rutland, and will repeat the opportunity for delegates to also sit the exam for the BASIS (Stored Potatoes) qualification. The online exam will be on 1 April 2025.

According to Adrian, the training offers a great chance for both new and experienced store managers to enhance their understanding of storage.

In addition to knowledge shared by Adrian, delegates will also hear from Glyn Harper, a trainer since 2010. Both were based at the Sutton Bridge research site prior to its closure in 2021.

Two-day training

Adrian adds that the course is designed as a two-day, residential programme, focusing on a relaxed and discussion-based delivery of information. “It combines practical, interactive training sessions with networking opportunities, including an informal evening dinner.

“The format is tailored to maximise delegate engagement and to give all participants in-depth understanding of storage management for their particular sector or specialisation,” he says.

Key elements of the course include risk and cost management as well as extensive coverage of disease threats, sprout control management and the all-important topic of ventilation – crucial for environmental management in all potato stores, outlines Adrian.

An early bird discount of £50 per person is available until 31 December. For any enquiries, contact Adrian Cunnington adrian@potatostorageinsight.com
