Farmers who are growing environmentally-friendly cover crops as part of an EnTrade scheme will be able to quickly and easily verify established crops from their smartphones thanks to the launch of a new app. CPM  finds out more.

In a day and age where everyone has a smartphone in their pocket, farmers can now use them – in conjunction with a new app – to verify their compliance with EnTrade cover crop schemes.

Environment saving

The online platform, EnTrade, facilitates efficient catchment spending and collaboration between buyers (water companies) and sellers (farmers and landowners) of environmental measures.

Users are able to upload pictures and details of their crops directly from the field via the app. Once submitted, machine learning technology automatically identifies and confirms the crop and location.

This latest development from the firm comes at a time when politicians are asking farmers to do more in terms of environmental protection.

Of course, additional compliance often means more paperwork, but the EnTrade app is set to ease the burden of record keeping by making it quicker and more efficient.

“Our whole business model is designed around making it financially viable, supportive and easier for farmers to deliver more for the environment,” says Guy Thompson, managing director at EnTrade. “The app will help us to make even bigger strides in this direction.”

User-friendly

Compatible with both Apple and Android devices, the app is free to download and offers a simple, user-friendly interface that even technophobes can use with ease.

“Through our engagement with farmers, we understand that they want to maximise their environmental contributions, while still producing good quality food,” he adds.

“However, we also recognise their extremely busy work loads and long hours. The app allows farmers to verify their cover crops instantly, meaning they can get on with their day without creating extra administrative work.”
