A new sclerotinia fungicide containing fluoxastrobin is now available to help UK farmers tackle the fungus in oilseed rape. CPM reports.
Sclerotinia outbreaks cause major headaches for arable growers and can lead to devastating yield losses if left untreated.
However, a new broad-spectrum fungicide – Evito T from Arysta LifeScience – could help increase control, and add to the range of options available to growers.
This is the first time a fungicide containing fluoxastrobin has been available for sclerotinia control in the UK and combines the active with tebuconazole for an enhanced performance and improved resistance management.
“Evito T combines a ‘next generation’ strobilurin with one of the best triazoles available, to rapidly stop sclerotinia and provide long-term protection,” explains Don Pendergrast, product development and technical manager at Arysta LifeScience. “Fluoxastrobin, which was previously unavailable for application on oilseed rape, penetrates rapidly into the leaf enhancing the speed of activity.”
Tried and tested
Trials have shown that it’s absorbed into the leaf so rapidly that rainfastness is demonstrated within 15 minutes of application and it also has a strong greening effect on the plant, he adds. “Pairing this with highly effective fungicide tebuconazole, offers growers the added benefit of improved resistance management.”
Optimum timing is early to mid-flowering (GS 61-65) and for best use growers are encouraged to apply the product preventatively, to capitalise on its extended persistency and protectant properties.
