Farmers, contractors, and industry professionals are invited to a miscanthus supply chain and harvest open day.

The event, taking place on Wednesday 26 February in Lincolnshire, is in conjunction with research partner, Niab, and will explore the crop’s role in sustainable farming and the latest miscanthus research.

There will also be a live miscanthus harvest demonstration, showcasing advancements in breeding, planting technology, and crop monitoring.

Plus, key research from Niab’s Centre for High Carbon Capture Cropping (CHCx3) project, funded by Innovate UK, will be highlighted, focusing on reducing CO₂ emissions, supporting farm resilience, and creating new carbon marketplace opportunities.

Speaker list

On the speaker line-up is:

  • William Cracroft-Eley, Terravesta chairman; and Florian Ilias, Terravesta managing director, presenting the business case for miscanthus
  • Dr Lydia Smith of Niab, discussing insight into what crops to grow for strong carbon storage, outlining the Centre for High Carbon Capture Cropping project and how it will help farmers to grow more resilient crops
  • Dr Chris Ashman, post-doctoral research associate, IBERS; and Dr Michal Mos from Terravesta, will discuss the latest research into miscanthus plant breeding
  • Tim Russon, Lincoln-based contractor, is to demonstrate field cutting
  • Robert Meadley, agricultural business consultant, divisional partner at Brown and Co, will update on the SFI payments that miscanthus is eligible for
