Premium Crops has announced the launch of its 2025 season featuring new spring break crop contracts.
Alongside the company’s attendance at CropTec (27-28 November) and to coincide with the launch of the AHDB Recommended Lists, Premium Crops will also be releasing new Variety Assessment Tables to support growers considering alternative spring and autumn break crop options.
The tables will be distributed in person at CropTec, and digitally via its website; direct links will also be available on social media – @premiumcrops.
Key varieties
Variety Assessment Tables are available for HEAR (high erucic acid rapeseed) and HOLL (high oleic low linoleic) oilseed rape, plus winter and spring linseed. Key varieties in the firm’s portfolio are represented alongside commercial controls to enable growers to cross-compare data with the new AHDB Recommended and Descriptive Lists, says seeds and marketing manager, Nigel Padbury.
“We believe our network of ‘alternative crop’ trial sites around the country is truly unique among speciality arable suppliers. In addition to yield, data is collected on a range of important crop characteristics such as maturity, height, vigour and grain quality.
“By enabling farmers to match variety characteristics to their particular farm conditions, the data means that our growers can optimise the returns they achieve from the contracts offered by Premium Crops.”
New rotational crops
Nigel adds that as the ongoing impact of climate change is being felt every season by farmers, it’s important to consider a broad range of crops in the rotation. “By introducing alternative species, the benefits can be seen in the bottom line, as well as in the fields.
“We’ve had some truly incredible results from our variety trials and farmers have seen significant returns by introducing alternative crops backed by a Premium Crops contract.”
