Farmers are invited to trial a biostimulant on farm this autumn, as part of a nationwide challenge.

UPL is offering 50 farmers 20ha of biostimulant Vitalroot, which claims to improve crop health and yields. The scheme is called the Vitalroot Vitality Challenge.

The company says the product stimulates root growth and increases tiller numbers, which leads to improved nutrient uptake, drought tolerance and higher yields.

Application

Application is recommend from 2-leaf stage until the beginning of tillering, which often coincides with early post-emergence herbicide applications.

“The active ingredient [in Vitalroot] is Goactiv, mixed with P and K,” says Gemma Nokes, UPL’s head of marketing UK and Ireland. “It’s an oligosaccharide that kick-starts enzyme activity, stimulating the plant’s metabolic pathways. This gets the plant moving at a key time, producing bigger root systems and more tillers, which translates to higher yields,” she says.

“We’re delighted by Vitalroot’s performance in trials this year, and feel the best way to demonstrate this to growers is by offering them the product to trial on their farms.”

Apply online

To enter the Vitalroot Vitality Challenge, farmers should enter their details online at bit.ly/VITALROOT or by following the link on UPL’s website.

The deadline for applications is 30 September, after which UPL will send the product to those eligible in readiness for autumn application.
