KWS will be celebrating its Star Baker, Group 1 bread-making wheat, KWS Zyatt, with a real-life star baker at Cereals 2018.
The Company will also be showcasing its other key wheat, barley, oilseed rape, hybrid rye and sugarbeet varieties.
Visitors to Cereals will be able to meet KWS’ new Star Baker, Group 1 bread-making wheat KWS Zyatt. They will have the opportunity to talk to a star baker well known for his ‘lion bread’ on ‘The Great British Bake Off’ popular television show, who will be answering questions about baking, on KWS’ stand 432 on the morning of Wednesday 13 June.
Claiming the Group 1 top spot for yield on the 2018/19 Recommended List (RL), KWS Zyatt offers yields up to 2% higher than Skyfall, earlier to harvest, and with high protein levels. A good disease profile with the joint highest untreated yield adds to its appeal, as does its excellent performance in the popular second wheat slot. Its position in the RL shows that the variety offers potentially the best option of any wheat in this rotational position – thanks to its Hereford parentage. A premium bread-making variety, KWS Zyatt can open up additional market opportunities though end-use flexibility, where it’s proving its ability to produce the complete range of white bakery products in addition to the standard loaf.
New introductions from KWS also include Group 4 KWS Jackal, the highest yielding soft wheat on the 2018/19 RL. Offering a good disease profile with resistance to orange wheat blossom midge and excellent yield potential, particularly in second wheat position, KWS Jackal is ideal for growers in the north and east regions. The variety is suitable for a range of end use markets including, distilling, some soft milling, feed and bioethanol.
KWS’ Group 4 Kerrin is a very consistent high yielding variety, performing exceptionally well in the east and is also well suited to the north region. It has strong disease resistance, including septoria and yellow rust. KWS Kerrin has a superior specific weight with a similar plant type and growth habit to its parent KWS Santiago, but with improved yield.
New oilseed Django is the latest offering from the KWS Momont breeding programme. This very high yielding conventional variety includes a strong disease package, mid-flowering and medium-late maturity. Early vigour ensures rapid establishment that gives it east and west appeal, with consistent performance across regions and seasons.
