With the area of arable land cropped with spring barley expected to increase, growers are urged to ensure the variety they choose fits their needs.
KWS has recently posted information on its website about its spring malting variety KWS Irina, and there’s more to follow in the coming months, CPM has been informed.
The variety’s noted for its strong export demand, with global appeal, but it’s also farmer friendly, say experts, with high scores for lodging and brackling, in particular.
Agrii’s Paul Taylor gives his view, and there’s also a verdict from Suffolk grower Chris Ascroft, of Wilbraham Farms.
To stay abreast of developments with KWS varieties, its new service Cultivent may be worth signing up to.
Launched earlier this year, it provides growers with regular updates and real-time decision-making tools to help achieve best results from KWS varieties.
“It consists of two parts,” explains Scott Manning of KWS. “There are apps to help you get the best from your farm, and an agronomic email service delivering relevant, timely information to help with decision making.”
Available only to those who sign up using the online form, this’ll only be used for agronomic communication, not for marketing purposes, he assures.
Spring barley pointers and insight on getting the best from KWS Irina will be included in the coming months.
